SAAP - Social Action and Awareness Program
Linkages with different sections of the society are an important component of our educational programmes. SAAP is a programme that seeks to involve the students of St. Xavier's Loyola School to understand the society around them and the problems faced by marginalized of the society. It also provides them with the opportunities to interact with less privileged children of society.
SAAP includes initial classroom orientations, but it mainly focuses on the students of Loyola interacting with less privileged communities. One way of doing this is through exposures to the social realities around i.e. Old-age home, physically and mentally challenged children home, blind people association, slum areas, Juvenile observation home and deserted people home. Loyola School students visit these places, spend their time with these people and spend their resources for them on number of occasions.
Another way is to bring the children of the two strata together. This is done on different occasions. On Children’s Day (November 14) a funfair is organized every year; the students of Loyola School go out of their way with the resources at their command to bring joy to their fellow-citizens who are not as privileged as they are. It is very heartening to see them sharing their resources as well as their joy in interacting with the slum children. Thus, the seeds of social orientation of concern and responsibility towards the less privileged are sown in this small yet significant gesture.
Get-togethers are organized for the students of Loyola School and slum children, in which they share their art and skills with each other, have snacks together brought from their home and thus cherish the moments of childhood together!
