NIOS - National Institute of Open Schooling
The objective of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is to encourage and support the students to continue their education who have been dropped out of educational system for poor economic conditions and slow learning capacities. They can take secondary and higher secondary examination without attending the regular school. Individuals who have not gone to any school can also take the examination by NIOS. Thus NIOS opens the doors of new opportunities for these children.
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) comes under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. SXSSS was one of the first institutes in Gujarat to be accredited for the NIOS Programme since 1990 with English and Hindi as a medium of instruction. In the year 2007 the institute had been granted the status of a study centre along with Gujarati as a medium of instruction. The programme consists of the regular orientation programmes, coaching classes, study guidance and counselling. Over the last twenty years it has become a platform for underprivileged students to take advantage of the open school education system. At present there are more than 400 students being reached out every year through this program from all over the state of Gujarat and many of them are taking advantage of educational centres run for NIOS coaching. Around 100 students from our working areas get benefited from this program is a notable fact. The economically poor are given financial assistance for pursuing their NIOS studies.
NIOS has reached far beyond merely an education programme. Considering them as an important change agent of the society different efforts are made to involve them in different development activities of the organization.
