INNED - Innovative Education
The INNED programme focuses on overall development of children of the marginalized, deprived and backward sections of society with the active participation and involvement of their parents. It provides quality education to children without depriving them of the joy of childhood, opportunities to develop and flourish so that they become good and responsible citizen of tomorrow. The objective of the INNED is to motivate and support students in a creative way for continuing education and excelling in their studies. Innovative methodology is an important aspect of the INNED. Apart from regular coaching classes, activities like games, competitions, educational outings, sports, drawing, songs, films, paper work, clay work, reading, writing etc have proved to be very important tools to create an interest among students for education.
Innovative Education Programme was started in the slum resettlement of Sanklitnagar. The term “Innovative” was used because SXSSS wanted it to be an answer to the needs of slums, using it for both contents and methods that fulfilled the needs as they were being understood. In the process followed so far, there have been no set patterns and the programme has remained open and alive, with the readiness to respond, correct, review and grow. In fact the concept developed so far has been an “emerging” one and the organization wanted to develop it into maturity. In the light of the above, SXSSS defined the objective, content and methodology of INNED Program.
INNED focuses primarily on children not going to school and drop-outs but also includes children going to school. It usually accepts children of age 6 and above, with no upper age limit. It is not a teacher-centric or programme-centric, but a children-centric programme, that is there are no evaluation, exams, rules or targets which may force children into patterns. Rather stage is provided to children for their personality development and children are provided with an environment which is conductive of learning. INNED serves as a basis for further learning, where a child “Learns to Learn”. In this atmosphere a child is encouraged to become aware of his/ her potential and capabilities and is activated to use them and grow.
INNED classes are conducted in educational centres in slum areas reaching out to around 1000 children every year.
