Loyola Evening School Celebrates Annual Day

July 31, 2011

July 31 the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of the Society of Jesus is celebrated world over by the Jesuits and their collaborators. SXSSS celebrates the day for the stating of the initiative “Loyola Evening School” to improve the lives of the deprived children surrounding Loyola school on that day. Formally inaugurated on July 31, 2007 Loyola Evening School is an initiative of the organization in collaboration with St. Xavier's Loyola School for less privileged school going and non-school going children of nearby localities. The programme has opened the doors of one of the prestigious schools of Ahmedabad for the less privileged children.

LES completed 4 years on July 31, 2011 and its annual day was observed on July 30, 2011 with LES children, their parents, teachers, Loyola school students, and children of our Innovative Educational Centers from slums of Ahmedabad. More than 500 children so different in many ways, experienced a sense of togetherness being children. They belonged to diverse social strata; they hailed from different geographical areas; they came from communities that professed different caste and creed; they were small and big. More than 300 parents remained present in the programme. Increased involvement of parents proves the fact that the parents have noticed progress and development in their children.

The Loyola Auditorium was filled with excitement and the time was spent in enjoying entertainment, performing cultural programs, relishing food and gathering gifts for overall performance during the year. Annual report of LES was presented in the programme through a short film. A number of cultural programmes provided space to the children to come out with their talents. A very special part of the programme was to give prizes to the students who performed marvelously in their fields, i.e. best leader, best scholar, best in general knowledge, science, best in sports etc.  The Loyola school students who had volunteered in teaching English to LES children during summer vacation were honoured with certificates.

Thanks to many who contributed generously
For brining the smile and happiness on the faces of the children;
The smile that no one will be able to take away from their memory.
