Children's Day

St. Xavier’s Social Service Society is working with children of the marginalized strata for more than the last thirty years. Along with their educational development SXSSS makes constant efforts to provide them opportunities when they can play, enjoy, have fun and experience their childhood. Hence, Children’s Day (November 14) is very important for the organization. Every year it is celebrated in such a way that it becomes memorable for the children.  Though it comes annually, we make each year’s event very unique. It has to be children’s day indeed!!!

More than 1500 children come together on the day – so different in many ways; they experience a sense of togetherness being children. They belong to diverse social strata: rich and poor; they hail from different geographical areas: rural and urban; they come from communities that profess different caste and creed; they are small and big. The children are from Innovative Educational Centres from slums of Ahmedabad; from Gramin Educational Centres of Veraval; from Loyola Evening School and the students of Loyola School.

The event is organized in different ways every year. It is for the children, by the children and of the children from morning 9 till evening 6. The celebration is usually divided into three parts. The first part usually consists of fun events like cultural programmes, circus or magic show. Children are either taken out for fun events like circus or magic show or they themselves perform various cultural programmes in creative ways. In the second part these hundreds of children have their lunch together. We arrange the system in such a way that all the children can have fun and eat together.
On the other hand, the students of Loyola School organize the Annand mela going out of their way with the resources at their command to bring joy to their brethren who are not as privileged as they are. The seeds of social orientation of concern and responsibility towards the less privileged are sown in small yet significant gesture.

The fact that hundreds of children come together the place is filled with fun and excitement. The day certainly brings the smile and happiness on the faces of the children.
